BASF Builders Challenge Award for Extraordinary Efforts to Advance Zero Net Energy, U.S. Department of Energy, 2010
Ecofutures received this award for completing the Evergreen ZNE home in March 2009, our company’s second project to achieve a verified score of (–3) on the U.S. Department of Energy’s EnergySmart Home Scale (E-Scale). When the DOE issued its Builders Challenge in 2008, Ecofutures’ Solar Harvest was the first home to be registered under the program with a HERS score of (–3). The awards go to builders who have achieved superior performance through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America Builders Challenge. Ecofutures currently has 4 homes registered under Builders Challenge and looks forward to enrolling many more in the coming years! See the case study Builders Challenge did about Ecofutures’ (–3) HERS homes.
Honorable Mention, Design + Build Category
2008 International Green Dot Awards
Ecofutures was awarded an honorable mention for the international Green Dot Awards. Of over 500 entries from all over the world, only 25 received awards. Ours came in the competition’s “Design + Build” category for our Scrub Oak Deep Energy Retrofit, Boulder’s first zero net energy retrofit. The project was honored for being a “revolutionary showcase of sustainable and functional living/working design.” According to the GDA’s website, the purpose of the award is to bridge the gap between truly innovative businesses that practice excellence in environmental responsibility and international consumers and media.
Solar Harvest selected as example of “New Energy Economy” by Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, 2006
In 2006, during Governor Bill Ritter’s campaign, he used Solar Harvest as the backdrop for his endorsement by Congressman Mark Udall (now a Senator). At the time, Udall co-chaired the House Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus, so it was fitting that the endorsement took place at Solar Harvest, as the home had recently received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s highest Energy Star rating among 30,000 new Colorado homes. Other Colorado politicians have hosted events at Solar Harvest since then, including Congressman Jared Polis in 2009. All events are designed to highlight the opportunities to eliminate our dependency on polluting fossil fuels and become a carbon-free society.
