The Denver Post

There was a wonderful article on Eric Doub's new energy-efficient home in the Denver Post on October 23. The article has now expired from the Post's free archives, but can be accessed in their pay archive - search for "Energy Tab: Zero" - or a scanned version can be downloaded here.  In addition, the Post provided an interactive graphic demonstrating the energy-saving features of the home.

Excerpt from the Post article:

Eric Doub plans never to pay another utility bill after he moves next month into his new, $1 million Boulder home. The house will produce at least as much energy as it uses, giving it the rare designation of being a "zero energy" home. The specter of steeply escalating energy bills is helping push zero energy from a theoretical ideal to an achievable standard in new-home construction.

Energy Design Update

Eric's big tank and net-zero energy home designs are featured on the front page of the highly-accredited green building newsletter, Energy Design Update (vol. 25, no.9).  The six-page article entitled "Seasonal Storage of Solar Heat" explains the concept of using water as "seasonal heat storage;" a reserve of thermal energy to provide the home's heating and hot water needs during several consecutive days of cold, cloudy conditions.   Because the article is only available through subscriptions, we are unable to post it to our website here.  Please contact us to view the article in our office.
