Eric is featured in KGNU's Conservation Radio Spotlight Marking the one-year anniversary of moving into Solar Harvest, Eric discusses experiences from the first year and proposes new directions for net-zero energy homes. Listen to the December 28, 2006 interview.
In a beautiful 6-page color spread, author Carol Driscoll explores the multifaceted elements of Solar Harvest including design concepts, builder philosophies, national home energy trends and how Solar Harvest contributes to the green building movement. Home Energy November/December 2006 Boulder Home Pushes for Zero discusses general specifications and performance of Solar Harvest after its first year. To date, the home has produced more energy than it consumed: over 1000kWh have been fed back to the utility grid and only 18 therms of natural gas used during the chilly winter for clothes drying and stove. Design Update October 2006 Eric writes a letter to the editor of Home Energy a year after his tank was featured in the "Industry News" section (see September 2005, below) reporting progress made and reflections on the art of big tank design. Read a copy of his letter here.
CRES Building Awards 2006 (July 10, 2006) Eric won the Colorado Renewable Energy Society's 2006 Renewable Energy & Sustainable Design in Buildings Award for residential buildings! The award presented at the Solar 2006 Conference recognizes Eric's design and innovation at Solar Harvest. In accepting his award, Eric was invited to give a 10-minute presentation on Solar Harvest. Environmental Design and Construction June 2006 Pushing the
Zero-Energy Boundaries explores the many design &
construction attributes that cause Solar Harvest to function with
net-zero energy consumption each year. Although the home uses
about 2 therms of natural gas each month for the range and clothes
dryer, the huge amount of surplus energy generated by the 6.84kW
photovoltaic array largely offsets this minimal energy use allowing it
to be considered a net-zero energy user. Click here to view

first Amendment-37 renewable energy rebate! The
Daily Camera: Solar Home Survives Extremes Solar Harvest received the first post-Amendment 37
rebate check from Xcel Energy on Wednesday, May 24. The
delivery of this check marks the beginning of a movement in support of
solar energy. Residents installing PV systems can expect
about half of the installation costs to be covered by Xcel rebates such
as this with an additional $2000 federal solar tax credit.

The
Daily Camera: Efficiency the Exception The Sunday Camera Solar Harvest featured Solar Harvest in part of a series called "Chill Factor" investigating the high costs of heating. Eric described the features that make Solar Harvest so efficient and propose the possibility of the methods and materials he used to be brought to the greater construction industry.
